Summer University?

Every student can join a Summer University, whether you study at the University or Saxion. The only thing you need to do is become a member of AEGEE-Enschede, if you aren't one yet. If you want to apply for a Summer University: follow the next five steps.

1. Select a Summer University.

Make a selection of three Summer Universities you would like to attend. This is important, because we cannot guarantee you will be accepted for the Summer University of your choice. So, it is important to write an amazing motivation letter. An example of a motivation letter can be found below. You will receive a message from the organising local if you are accepted for the Summer University. If you want to see all Summer Universities you can check this site Summer University list.

2. Become a member

If you would like to participate in a Summer University, you have to be a member of AEGEE-Enschede. You can become a member of AEGEE-Enschede any time during the year, it cost €60,- per year. If you become a member after the first of April it will cost €20,-.

3. Registration aegee.org

Once you became a member of AEGEE-Enschede, you have to register on the AEGEE intranet. Pick a password, fill out the form and when a board member of AEGEE-Enschede approved, you can start your application.

4. Register for a Summer University

Go to the SU site, log in and register for the three Summer Universities of your choice. The deadline differs per year, but this year it is 2nd of May!

5. Selectionprocedure

There is a selectionprocedure because there is a limited number of participants for each Summer University. Besides that, there must be a balance between gender and different nationalities. As soon as you completed your application there will be an automatic preselection. Two of your three preferences will be annulated, in order to create a balance for each Summer University. This will happen automatically. After that, your application must be approved by you local, in this case AEGEE-Enschede. This is no problem, just a formality. Last but not least, your application will be send to the organisers of the remaining Summer University. They will select the participants based on gender, nationality, age and motivation. Each Summer University will present a list of all participants.

Example motivation letter

Your motivation letter is one of the most important things in your Summer University application. Important things to mention in your letter are a description why you are the one they should accept for their Summer University and why you would like to participate in this particular Summer University. You have to write a motivation letter for all three Summer Universities. Of course they can be sort of the same, just the motivation will differ per Summer University.

Dear organisers,

I became a member of AEGEE two years ago. Since, I have been to about ten other events, including two agora's and a ES1. Last year I also organised our own local SU.
The European School 1 was held in Odessa last November and there I learned my first things about Ukrainian culture. I had never been to your country before and I was truly impressed. Unfortunately during the ES1 we didn't have a lot time to enjoy the culture and hardly ever got out of the university, except for the great parties at night of course. Anyway, I still hope to learn more about Ukraine, see some other cities and especially meet more Ukrainian people. Of course I also like to meet all the other participants and I am sure we will become a great group of friends.
I like to have fun. Being active all day, playing games, doing sports, seeing new things, talking about serious stuff or just relaxing and tasting the local kitchen. And after a busy day I expect to have a real great party. Sitting next to the campfire or dancing in a disco, it's all fine with me.
I am really looking forward to this SU and hope that my letter convinced you to accept me as a participant.

Kind regards,

..

Dear organisers,

I became a member of AEGEE two years ago. Since, I have been to about ten other events, including two agora's and a ES1. Last year I also organised our own local SU.
I became addicted to AEGEE and learned a lot about cultures throughout Europe that I didn't know before. I've been to Poland, Hungary and Ukraine a few times now. There I've met several people from Romania and they all tell me that it's a beautiful country that I have to come and see. So this has been my wish for the last couple of months.
I find Romania a very interesting country and I hope to see a lot of its culture during this SU. I'd like to see some different cities, learn the history as well as the normal life nowadays and find out what is true about all the things that is written in our newspapers.
Apart from that, I am just like all the others from AEGEE, I like to have fun. Being active all day, playing games, doing sports, seeing new things, talking about serious stuff or just relaxing and tasting the local kitchen. And after a busy day I expect to have a real great party. Sitting next to the campfire or dancing in a disco, it's all fine with me. Furthermore I hope to meet lots of new people from different places to become friends with forever.
I am really looking forward to this SU and hope that my letter convinced you to accept me as a participant.

Kind regards,

Dear organisers,

With AEGEE I have been to a lot of countries within Europe, and met a lot of people from everywhere, also Italians. They talk with great pride about their country and I also noticed that they're good party people. So that's why I became interested in your SU.
I've been to Rome once on a high school trip. I liked that very much but I've been told that places in the north are just as pretty. Especially Venice would be very nice, but I would like to see other places as well. I want to see things from your culture and finally learn to make proper Spaghetti.
